    Removing Rear Seat

So I decided to remove the rear seat today for weight savings..... Anyway, I pull upwardly in my driveway I put the motorcar in neutral and put the parking brake on, just it felt a piddling funny, not what it commonly feels similar. I idea zippo of it, and then then started to remove the back seat. After removing the back seat, I moved my car and I got an airbag light on the dash, which patently has to do with the seat being removed. Thats not the problem. The trouble is, that the parking break malfunction light is on as well. Could removing the back seat have something to do with the parking brake??? Seems a footling odd, only then I remembered the parking brake acted funny when I put the car in park, before I removed the back seat. And then possibly information technology's a coincidence??? Any ideas?

Going to plug the seat in and see if it clears before I run the scan. I also spoke to a tech at audi and said the brake parking low-cal comes on considering the airbag was unplugged and ppl actually pay attention to it and bring the car in to become serviced. If it were just the airbag light, people tend to accident it off. The rear seat weighs 67lbs. That is just the upper back rest.

Interested to know how you went with the codes and errors?

Were you able to remove them?

Why would the mistake codes come on when removing rear seats? there aren't any air bags in them right?

also can you tell me where you start to remove them? I had a quick look but can't find where to showtime :)

    Thanks

you're almost likely going to accept to accept it to the dealer. they're going to have to reset it via Audi'south network as i believe there is some sort of module in there to protect against theft.

i really did a full interior bandy with someone and i had to do this. it'southward all locked out in VCDS, and then you can't do it yourself.

I take it nobody actually sits dorsum there in ur machine but the way I run into information technology is if you want to become gains with this car past saving weight,forged/lightweight wheels and tires($$$) would be the style to get.You could fifty-fifty lose the spare tire and tools/jack but shaving unsprung weight on the corners would work best IMO.

I personally don't remember the OP removing the rear seats is all that unreasonable. I bought the S4 simply because I love it. Information technology meets my functional, aesthetic and emotional requirements. My rear seats have almost never been used and probably never will be. If you take no use for them, why haul the weight, every bit insignificant every bit it might be? Unsprung, corner or not, it'south something. I've seen people do crazier things for far less bear upon. Heck, if it doesn't look like donkey afterwards and doesn't throw codes, I might do information technology equally well; I don't run across why not.

I can easily run into 200 pounds (or more) comin off and I do believe it will make a deviation.

Anyone know how much the front seats weigh? (with heaters, electrical lumbar and electric adjustments)

Kind of unrelated, but had to share this. Overheard a guy at the role talking most how he tin can shed weight from his weekend racer......meanwhile the guy is 5'x 250lbs. Talk near irony.

It is kind of cool. First, you need a few years experience at the track to consistently ride solo. Fifty-fifty afterward seven years, I accept my motorcar aligned and the preload prepare to zero for myself AND a passenger instructor. So with united states and gas it's 4150 pounds going around the track. There's no getting effectually that.

The dorsum seats probably counterbalance 120 pounds. They do provide some chassis stiffening when they're locked in. Y'all could supersede them with a bar from a cage fabricator.

The main problem here is the front end / rear weight residue is 57.ix / 44.1%. The near balanced Audi is really the two.0T avant, at 50/50.

The S5 is a more natural car to remove the rear seats on. Yous tin only carpet the frame like the GT3 cars.

Don't understand why someone would buy the practical iv door sedan if they have no use for the back seat. I think virtually would agree that the S5 is a sexier animate being if you lot merely need two seats. Merely thing I tin can think of is S5 came with V8 at the time.

Its the same reason I bought the S4 too. If the S5 came in a 3.0T I would take definitely bought that.
Also to the original poster. I have removed my backseat too and had the same brake malfunction light. Dont worry virtually it you can articulate information technology with VCDS

The only reason to practise it is if yous want to stiffen up the frame and protect your caput. I don't think this saves weight but it does make the car faster.
